Scholarship on disabilities and the policies shaping university research

Research Policy

In The Know is a public outreach project of the Merrill Advanced Studies Center -- available exclusively on our website. Articles and fact sheets for the general reader give accurate information about disabilities, aging, and human development. In The Know explains hot topics in science and policy as they emerge at Merrill conferences. It also taps into the wealth of knowledge at the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies, a nationally-acclaimed research group at the University of Kansas. In The Know is an excellent source for research on mental retardation and communication disorders across the life span from infancy to old age. It is also a good way to keep up-to-date on policies that promote topflight research in academe. In The Know is divided into two sections: Science and Research Policy

Research Policy gives you a snapshot of the issues facing universities as they compete for research dollars and train the next generation of scientists. Funding by the National Institutes of Health equips scientists with the tools they need to deliver answers. Universities capture these research dollars by encouraging innovation among their top scholars and recruiting the best students. This requires visionary administrative policies. Read our interviews with national policy leaders to learn more about initiatives that are moving academe well beyond the ivory tower.
