The Interface of Science and Public Policy

The Merrill Center hosted the 9th annual retreat in its series The Research Mission of Public Universities, July 13-15, 2005. Twenty senior administrators and faculty from Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska heard formal presentations and then conference participants discussed many facets of the topic in a relaxed atmosphere. The keynote speaker, Alan Leshner, Chief Executive Officer of AAAS and Executive Publisher of Science magazine, launched the discussion by sharing his perspective on the various elements that have a role in the intersection of science and public policy, including the changing relationship between technology and science. The lively dialogues are captured in a Merrill Center publication. Conference photo gallery.
